Sarasota cobia

Along with spectacular beaches, visitors to Lido Key in Sarasota, FL will have the opportunity to experience some excellent fishing.  A Lido Key fishing charter offers several options to clients.  Drifting the passes and deep grass flats in Sarasota Bay will result in steady action on a variety of species including speckled trout, pompano, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, ladyfish, jacks, snapper, sea bass, flounder, and more.  Most of the fish will average a pound or two and the action and variety make it a fun trip.  Live bait, artifical lures, and fly fishing are all productive.

Fishing area docks and bridges with live bait will produce redfish, snook, mangrove snapper, sheepshead, flounder, and drum, just to name a few.  Using this technique on a Lido Key fishing charter will produce less fish, but generally larger ones.  Anglers seeking a challenge will target snook and redfish on the shallow flats and along mangrove shorelines.  This will not produce a lot of fish, but may result in a trophy!  Plugs, jigs, and live bait are most effective.

Sarasota snook

The inshore Gulf of Mexico in another option for anglers on a Lido Key fishing charter.  There are three artificial reefs within 2 miles of shore and they are fish magnets.  Spanish mackerel are plentiful, king mackerel, false albacore, cobia, and sharks are all available regularly.  In the summertime, giant tarpon migrate through on their spwaning run.  These fish average 75 pounds and get close to 200 pounds!  They truly are the ultimate gamefish.

The best way to experience the fishing is on a Lido Key fishing charter with Capt Jim Klopfer.  He has 20+ years as a full time guide in Sarasota.  He can be reached at (941) 371-1390 or captklopfer@comcast.net
