Sheepshead fishing hot in Sarasota passes!

The annual sheepshead spawning run is getting started as these fiesty saltwater panfish are becoming plentiful in the area.  Big Sarasota Pass borders Lido Key to the south and has a bunch of fish-holding structure.  Rocky bottom, docks, and sea walls will attract sheepshead, along with grouper and snapper.  The technique if quite simple, just lower a live or frozen shrimp down to the bottom on a #1/0 bait hook and wait for the bite.  While sheepshead are quite tasty, they are difficult to clean and most anglers don't keep any less that 14" or so, even though the minimum is 12".

Cool weather arrives for Lido Key fishing charters

Well, fall has finally arrived here on Lido Key in Sarasota, Florida.  We are settling into our fall fishing patterns as cold fronts move through on a weekly basis.  The water temperature hsas dropped down into the upper 60's and the fish are actively feeding, with wind really being the only issue.  Jigs work well this time of year as they allow anglers on Sarasota fishing charters to cover a lot of water with most trips producing 8 or so different species.  Gulp! Shrimp on a 1/4 ounce jig head work well as do other soft plastic baits.  Hopefully this cool weather will trigger out annual fall run of Spanish mackerel, false albacore, sharks, and more!
