Good fishing on Lido Key between late-season fronts

February was unseasonably warm with record breaking temperatures, however March has been more unsettled.  Weekly fronts have been moving through, bringing windy and a bit of rain.  In between these fronts, the fishing has been very good.  Clients on Sarasota fishing charters did well casting Bass Assassin jigs over submerged grass beds in 6' to 10' of water.  Speckled trout and ladyfish were numerous with a few bluefish, pompano, and Spanish mackerel mixed in.  Structure such as bridges, rocks, and docks are still holding sheepshead and mangrove snapper and hit live or frozen shrimp fished on the bottom.  A few small snook and redfish hit Rapala X-Raps and shrimp fished around shorelines and structure in Robert's Bay.

Good bluefish action in Sarasota for holiday clients!

Unseasonably warm weather resulted in gorgeous days out on the water for clients that booked Sarasota fishing charters this week.  Bluefish to 3 pounds were the highlight for anglers casting glow/chartreuse Bass Assassin Sea Shad baits over grass flats in 8' of water.  Speckled trout, sharks, pompano, gag grouper, ladyfish and more kept the rods bent with most of the flats from Marina Jacks to Buttonwood providing steady action.  This type of fishing is great for families and less experienced anglers as the difficulty is low and the odds of success are high!

Hot fishing on Lido Key before severe front

The first severe cold front of the season is moving through Florida this weekend.  Fish generally bite good before the front and that was the case this week.  Anglers on Lido Key fishing charters experienced fast action on the deep grass flats and in the passes.  Bluefish and ladyfish were plentiful with speckled trout and a few nice pompano mixed in and hit Bass Assassin jigs.  The Middlegrounds was the top spot with Big Sarasota Pass a close second.  Action should resume once the weather moves through and the water settles down.  Jack crevelle continue to please clients in the Manatee River and Braden River.  Both fly and spin anglers landed jacks to 5 pounds on baitfish patterns and plugs.

Fishing remains good on Lido Key, Sarasota Florida

Clients on Sarasota fishing charters caught quite a few different species casting Bass Assassin jigs on the deeo grass flats in Sarasota Bay as well as in both Big Sarasota Pass and New Pass over the last week.  Pompano, bluefish, speckled trout, gag grouper, and loads of ladyfish were among the species landed.  Ladyfish were thick at the mouth of the passes and false albacore are still schooling up on the beaches from Longboat Key to Siesta Key.  I also ran a trip out to the Braden River and found a bunch of hard-fighting jack crevelle, several of which were close to te pounds!

Breezy weather on Sarasota fishing charters this week.

We experienced some breezy conditions lately on Sarasota fishing charters, though it did not keep anglers from having success.  Snook and jack crevelle hit pilchards in Big Sarasota Pass and New Pass.  Pompano, speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, jacks, cobia, grouper, snapper, ladyfish, and more hit Bass Assassin jigs and live bait on the deeper grass flats.  Lido Key is surrounded on the east side by lush grass flats which hold bait and then in turn attracts the gamefish.  Our first severe cold front is approaching, hopefully that will kick off our fall beach fishing.
